  1. Topic: Should the U.S. offer bilingual ballots? Should the U.S. include bilingual education in its public school systems?

Thesis: Immigrants to the United States need to learn English in order to assimilate into the country. However, the United States needs to help those immigrants learn English instead of heaping the burden on the shoulders of people who are already enduring the shock of living in a new country. The United States needs to provide bilingual ballots and educational aids to naturalized citizens.

This article has five reasons why the U.S. does not need bilingual ballots. I plan to use these five points that say: 1. there is no justification for bilingual ballots, 2. Bilingual ballots are arbitrary and wasteful, 3. Bilingual ballots are an unfunded mandate on local governments, 4. Bilingual ballots increase the likelihood of errors and vote fraud, and 5. Bilingual ballots are a growing burden, to attack the argument that the U.S. does not need bilingual ballots. I will provide evidence contrary to what they say with those five reasons. This source gives plenty of information for why the U.S. should remove bilingual ballots and I plan to use quotes and data from this source to see what the opposing viewpoint is to my personal viewpoint.

I plan to use this article as a resource for facts and information about bilingual and multilingual education in public schools. The article talks about what reasons there are for providing specialized educational programs for people who are not proficient in English. This article also gives reasons for why non-supporters of multilingual education should be skeptical about providing funding and resources for educating people who are not proficient in English. This article will be a good source to find support for my argument that bilingual or multilingual education needs to be provided to immigrants who cannot speak English.
